Road Show at Mumbai

At the FICCI organised Road Show at Mumbai, I showed the 5-minute video on the Six Theme Green Cities on Govt land (Siliguri, Shantiniketan, Baruipr, Kalyani, Asansol and Howrah). Hon'ble Finance Minister, Dr Amit Mitra liked the video and indicated that a similar one would be made by the Industries Department too. I also talked of the Financial and Legal Hub in New Town. There were many suggestions. One of them related to involving the family, the women in the family, to build up a supportive environment that can change the mind set of the people, that can change the perception based on real facts. In Smart City programme, where citizen engagement is a key theme, I think that I will take this suggestion and involve various ladies' group.

  1. 2 days ago, Tamil Nadu took 1 landmark step towards solar power generation by making it compulsory in all high-rises.

Can we think of a similar step in New Town? This question will also be applicable for rainwater harvesting which was made compulsory in Tamil Nadu 15 years back in 2001.

I have seen these type of things eventually lead to a lot of Blue-collar jobs and also as we start generating more solar power, battery industry will start taking a look at our state.

  2. Also can we think of having smaller versions of Cafe Ekante near DLF1 in AA1 as well as near UNitech / DLF/ TATA SEZ in AA3?

These units will generate huge revenue (lunch / evening snacks / dinner) due to presence of office crowd and also provide the IT Population in New Town an alternate to "JhoporPattis"

The added benefit will be some more semi-skilled employment generation and more taxes for State Govt through VAT.
