Nursing College in New Town

A two-acre plot has been allotted for setting up of a Nursing School and College in Action Area II of New Town. The plot was allotted through e-Auction process to the famous Belle Vue Clinic Hospital. They are expected to run GNM and B.Sc(Nursing) Courses. There is, incidentally, a great shortage of trained nursing staff in the health sector and the new institution will fill up the gap to some extent. Mr Pradip Tandon, CEO Belle Vue, has promised to complete all formalities very fast.

The Tourism Department organised a road show to showcase West Bengal's tourism prospects yesterday. The venue was the glass house in the Eco Island of Eco Park. There were more than 100 delegates from different parts of the country and even abroad. Umapada Mukherjee Director Tourism West Bengal welcomed all the guests. There was a presentation on behalf of Tourism Department. The discussions and presentations continued well into the evening (till 9pm). All delegates were very impressed with Eco Park. I made a small presentation too. Sutanu Kar JMD organised a special leaflet and a small souvenir for each delegate. Dinner, sponsored by TTF, was served at the Food Court of Eco Park. 1. Good that the news has been carried out by TOI. Now we need to build the New Town as a smart city brand among the global technology R&D Companies.

I would request you Sir, for some of the tech projects ( including even smartphone app development), we should have global Tenders inviting all R&D Giants as well as Indian MNCs. The news will spread like wildfire as these R&D companies are now willing to treat India as a market rather than a place for just talent sourcing. Once they see the development in New Town, automatically they will shift some work here and there will be a great brand building for New Town as the future investment destination.

My second comment is about tourism. Durga Pujo is a huge tourism event for Kolkata as many outsiders visit the state during that period. HIDCO can collaborate with some large event management firms and host some mega events during Durga Puja in Eco Park or even Open Air Theater ( if it is ready by that time). Some big events like rock concerts ( with Indian and Bangladeshi bands) or some Bengali / North Indian / Continental food festival with participation from large eateries and hotels in Kolkata or some pre-planned and hyped fireworks show will also be able to draw large crowds to Eco Park and New Town during Durga Pujo as people are open about more and more unique things other than simple Pujo Porikroma. And the bonus will be that Govt will also be able to rake in big money from the investments that it has made in New Town.

However collaboration with a professional event management company, media partner ( MTV, Channel V , Tara Bangla etc) etc are needed to create a nation wide hype so that we draw more tourists to Kolkata and New Town.

  2. One more thing. If we are planning a big even during Durga Pujo....in New Town... we have to act fast...all big events take 3-4 months of extensive planning...and we are just 3 months ...even less than 3 months away from Pujo....

  3. I agree with Abhishek. Bengal with a huge talent pool in creative media can be significant in bringing investors, as well as, add to its character in arts and culture. If I may suggest, a film and television school could be an extension to digital arts, music and sound engineering, film production, design, commercial art, fine art, entertainment and advertising.
