High Powered Committee Meet on Airport Drainage

Today I chaired the first meeting of the High Powered Committee on Integrated Drainage Scheme for Kolkata. Dr B P Sharma Airport Director, Surendra Kumar CEO KMDA, Biman Mukherjee Secretary Irrigation, CE KMDA, Rajarhat Municipality and airport engineers attended. In a power point presentation, Airport Authorities explained the drainage scheme finalised by Jadavpur University. I mentioned that with approval of State Planning Board, a Rs 61 crore external drainage scheme has been approved by State Govt and that the scheme would be executed by KMDA and I&W Department. AAI, on the other hand, had already started implementing internal drainage system worth 28 crores.
We decided that KMDA would invite tenders within a week and Irrigation Deptt within a month. We formed a working technical group. We advised that transitional issues relating to monsoon 2014 should be addressed properly.
