Drainage Pumping Station Work starts

Yesterday afternoon, a small ground-breaking ceremony took place marking the commencement of a combined Drainage and Sewerage pumping station in Action Area 2 of New Town. The drainage project will consist of five storm-water drainage pumps each of 1 cumec (cubic metre per second) capacity and a 'sump' which will collect the surface run off water. The sewerage project will consist of five more pumps.

The project was held up for some time because of some land problem at site. Finally we got around it and we broke coconuts after a brief Bhumi Puja. P.P.Datta, ED(E) Hidco, Supriyo Bagchi SE PHE, Skumar Banerjee EE PHE and others were present. Here is a photo:

"No Meetings before 3pm":
Last Tuesday, in course of the weekly review meeting, I urged all technical officers of Hidco and NKDA to be on project sites in the forenoon, and do paperwork in the afternoon. To facilitate this, I have advised all concerned to avoid calling meetings before 3 pm on any day to enable engineers, planners and land officers to do their field work intensively.
I narrated that in our survey training days, we would start early in morning, return for late lunch and finish data work indoors thereafter, often well into the evening, in makeshift tents / camps. And now, with a mobile telephone, outdoor works can be most effectively co-ordinated from site itself while office of Hidco/NKDA would serve as the best equipped camp ever.  Even I decided to shift the standing Tuesday Meeting time from the customary 10.30am to 3pm every week henceforth.
