A "Health Plot" for New Town Residents

There is, as yet, no hospital / clinic in New Town which is designed to cater to the local residents of New Town. The target design population of the tow is 10 lakhs but at present the number of people actually staying is estimated to be 15,000. But numerous construction activities are going on, every day new building plans are being submitted for sanction and the dependence on Salt Lake / VIP Road area for health treatment has to come down. With this in view, we had put out for auction a 22 kottah plot located in Action Area I for a Polyclinic cum Day Care Centre.
The last date of application was 9th Nov. The highest bid was Rs. 6.85 crores for the 22 kottah plot (ie @ Rs. 18.45 crores / acre).
I hope to complete the formalities quickly so that the process of setting up the Day Care Centre can start at the earliest.

  1. Price increase within a small time frame does not simply happen because of speculation or inflation. This has correlation with the betterment of infrastructure in New Town thats happening under your guidance. Great work Sir.

    However I have a comment.

For new road development in AAII and AA-3 and alternate entry and exit routes to New Town, I think we need to be a little more proactive. Particularly the connection with AA-II with NH34 and connectivity of New Town with SH3 ( Basanti Expressway) other than the Bhojerhat Road ( which is also in shambles) for the south Kolkata bound traffic .

  3. when we auction plot for health and we get this kind of money, then only Apollo or BellView kind of hospital could come up. common man would have to depend on health clinic at VIP road. Govt should build basic infrastructure like school, hospital instead of auctioning all plots.Every flat of newtown in AA IIC has to pay around 80K to 1.2 L to get electric line upto their housing complex by WBSEB and then SEB has provided only apprx 30% of max calculated load. Govt should bear the cost of laying electric cable in newtown, rather than collecting from flat owners.

    1. Hi SD, I disgree with you on this. Even in any other city ( I will give the example of Bangalore where I live), that is approx the charge to get electricity connection. When a person is paying above 50L to buy a flat, and can afford that, is it nice to expect subsidy from Govt? I think we should change our mindset a bit.

Yes after collecting money, if SEB is providing only 30% of max calculated load and if there are frequent power cuts, thats really bad. Govt should provide big, wide unbroken roads and footpaths, clean and purified drinking water supply ( not the iron contaminated water from borewell) , parks and job opportunities by being able to attract industries. Till now, there is no property tax in New Town.
On top of that, if we expect that Govt should provide money for electricity connection, I think thats a little too much.

      However opinions may differ.

  4. Sir,
Thanks to Abhishek for drawing your attention on new roads for alternate entry & exit from New Town.
South Kolkata bound traffic from airport need alternate road from New Town via Basanti Road to reduce load on Salt Lake Sector V and EM Byepass.

    1. Thanks Ramesh.

And from Basanti Road ( Which needs to be widened / pavemented/ illuminated and is not getting done so) to Ruby / Kalikapur via Chowbhaga Road ( in front of heritage school). In that way, Ruby Junction can be avoided because we never know when will the Ruby Flyover project will happen as a part of BRTS project because BRTS on E M BYEPASS is happening in a frustratingly slow pace.

Also for people coming to work in Sector 5 / New Town from Barasat / Sodepur/ Madhaymgram / Barrackpore belt, we need an alternate route from Madhaymgram -Badu Road to AA-II to avoid the load on Airport Junction. I am haring about this proposed road from ages.
